2019 Offseason Debates
My favorite offseason debates from 2019:
🔹️Geronimo Allison vs MVS
🔹️OJ Howard vs Evan Engram
🔹️Derrick Henry vs My Ego
🔹️Phillip Lindsay vs Royce Freeman
🔹️Chris Carson vs Rashaad Penny
🔹️Matt Breida vs Tevin Coleman
I can't wait to see what happens this year. But for now, let's recap these from the 2019 preseason, and before I jumpstart this like a 1989 Cutlass Supreme…. I want you all to know, I won none of these debates.
My personal favorite. What the hell for? You might ask. Well to answer the question I assume everyone is asking, I won a hat bet over this one. I was gung ho over the fact that Marquez Valdez-Scantling was going to outscore Geronimo Allison. And damn I was right! But who gives a shit. Both of these guys blew huge donkey dicks. (I don't even care enough to look up their final rankings) Turns out, the real sleepers on the Packers were guys like Allen Lazard and Jake Kumero. Hey, I'm a nice guy, if you can show me proof that you drafted either of those guys in your redraft league in 2019, I'll buy you a hat. From TruthSerumFootball.com of course.
I saw preseason ranks of BOTH of these guys ranked as high as number 1 on certain analyst's draft boards. I wasn't one of them, however I was very high on both. I had them at 4 and 5 respectively. "Bruce Arians never utilizes tight ends. Yeah, but he has never had a tight end quite like OJ Howard." You know your ass said one of those phrases. I found myself leaning towards the talent. And I still believe he has it. It will prevail, the question is, when. Don't get me started on Evan Engram. I frequently said he would be a matchup nightmare for opposing defenses. And I got that right, kinda. He was the TE1 when he went down with injury. We saw long touchdowns where NextGen stats clocked him at 20+miles per hour. FYI, that's fast. That's really fucking fast, but all the speed in the world can’t make up for not being on the field. Ultimately I bought in on both of these guys and they failed me.
Jesus, why am I doing this to myself? Because even though I get a lot of calls right, I'd like to prove that I'm always willing to tell the #Truth, even when that is me having to swallow my pride and damn it was I was wrong on Derrick Henry… Excuse me, King Henry. This guy started the first 9 games exactly as I suspected (only 1 game hitting the century mark) and then Boom! In his final 6 games He rushed for 896 of his league leading 1540 yards. I'd bet a hat that this is another huge debate this off season. (Can Derrick Henry pick up where he left off) To that, I say fuck no, now swallow your "ego" and admit it. His style of play will never fit in today's NFL. Not for long.
Ask me today, "Who is the better RB, Phillip Lindsay or Royce Freeman?" I will give you the same answer. It's still Royce for me. Coming into last season, he faced the highest percentage of loaded boxes. Opposing defenses knew what was coming. Denver’s offense continued to evolve throughout the season. Royce became the receiving back and Lindsay was the early down back. Cleary, the Broncos fucked that all the way up. So Denver, please do us all a favor and make Royce the 3 down workhorse he should be so I can celebrate my victory with proof. He's… Just… Better...
I would like to start this off by saying, I loved both of these dudes last year. I was grabbing Carson in the 3rd and Penny in the 5th. But only one of them returned value. Carson was a freak show early on and into the midseason. Penny was a huge disappointment, at least until down down the stretch when Chris Carson and Rashaad Penny were as dominant as any running back duo in football heading into the final month of the regular season. And then both went down with injuries, ultimately derailing the Seahawks' season. Penny suffered an ACL tear plus additional damage to his knee, and Carson injured his hip. If both of these guys can enter 2020 with a clean bill of health, Lookout 49ers.
The real debates had my boy, Jerrick Fucking McKinnon mixed into them. And once again, I can't prove if my stance was right or wrong. Because I was higher than Snoop Dogg on McKinnon. All the signs were there, he was completely healthy after missing the entire 2018 season with a torn ACL. The 9ers gave him way more money the previous season than they gave Coleman in 2019. And yes… I said before, all the signs were there, but I didn't believe this one. Jerick folds like wet newspaper. I made a hat bet on this debate as well, but it was voided due to a technicality. The other original Truth Serum OG, Casey Brown allowed me to add the phrase "barring injury" to our Coleman vs. McKinnon hat bet. Who knows who would have won that bet, but you can bet your ass that the ONLY reason we were picking Brieda, was because he was the cheapest of the 3 in drafts. When all was said and done it turned out to be Raheem fucking Mostert anyway.
These preseason debates are a true waste of fucking time. But they are as fun as a room full of midget strippers.
