NFC North Fantasy Preview

Green Bay Packers

Offense-Aaron Rodgers came back on a huge and is now looking like Nicolas Cage from Con Air. The Three time MVP will look to continue his dominance, but with adversity facing him with the loss of Devante Adams to Las Vegas Raiders. This instantly propels Allen Lazard to his defacto WR1. I look for the running game to really pick up steam and become a true two-headed monster there. They also added WR Sammy Watkins who at times has been really good, but also very inconsistent especially when it comes to staying on the field. They added Christian Watson via the draft who figures to be slowly worked into the offense. I really like him more long term than short term as a receiver there in GB.

Defense- ILB Quay Walker will look to fill the middle on this revamped defense. Devonte Wyatt also looks to be the plug upfront. Kenny Clark will finally have another athletic big man next to him to hopefully take away some of those double teams in the trenches. Jarran Reed will also help that revamped DL as well.
Offseason additions

Coaching staff changes- The Packers promoted Jason Vrable to wide receivers/passing game coordinator, Luke Butkus to offensive line coach, Connor Lewis to assistant quarterbacks coach and Ryan Mahaffey to assistant offensive line coach. Adam Stenavich was promoted to to offensive coordinator.

Minnesota Vikings -

Offense- Other than extending Cousins the Offesne remains relatively the same as last year. JUstin Jefferson will look to solidify himself as thee Alpha receiver in all of the NFL. Adam Theilen will be looking for a come back into the fold as a dominate RZ threat. I really like the prospects of Irv Smith being part of this core of pass catchers. We were robbed last year of his breakout and maybe we finally get to see it in 2022. Dalvin Cook and Alexander Mattison will be looking to do their thing and will be business as usual.

Defense- Former Eagles linebacker Jordan Hicks should make a good tandem with EricKendricks. They did pay Danielle Hunter which needed to be done. He is not an easily replaceable player. He is by far the guy that places to most pressure on offenses. Zadarius Smith was maybe their key signing in FA after a failed physical with the Ravens previously. The 1-2 with Hunter if healthy could be a deadly dose of pass rush this season. Booth and Cine were also drafted to be worked in to be the future of the secondary there and to build depth behind the veterans on the roster.

Coaching Staff Changes- Kwesi Adofo-Mensah as GM to replace Rick Spielman. Kevin O’Connell replacing Mike Zimmer as HC. O’Connell has already came out and said he will run a pass first offense. One of the things fans have grudged over the most over the previous regime was they were always playing it safe. Especially at times when their leads were minimal. KO will look to change all that.

Detroit Lions -

Offense- Lions trade up with the VIKINGS to draft Jameson Williams 12th overall in the draft. I don’t imagine we see Jamo until mid season sometime. He is an absolute game breaker, but I don’t imagine we really see the potential out of until 2023 after he has a full year to recover from that ACL tear he got in the National Championship game in January. DJ Chark was added via free agency. We have seen flashes from him in Jacksonville. He should complement This offense well as a 4th option.

Defense- Lions drafted Aiden Hutchinson in the draft. This actually might of been the steal of the draft as he slipped down to them when he should of been taken first overall.

Coaching Staff Changes- Ben Johnson is the new offensive coordinator, Tanner Engstrand is taking Johnson’s place as tight ends coach and Kelvin Sheppard is moving from outside linebackers coach to just linebackers coach. I really feel Lions are turning a corner here and Dan Campbell is building new culture in Detroit.

Chicago Bears -

Offense- Clearly have more faith in Justin Fields than the rest of us. Bears did very little to help their young QB succeed in year two. Allen Robinson is gone to LA Rams in FA. Darnell Mooney has flashed and maybe just maybe we see if he is a true one. They did draft WR Velus Jones Jr at 71. He is a speedy 25 year old WR. He might be instantly thrust into the starting role with also Byron Pringle coming over in FA to join the Bears.

Defense- the Bears lost Khalil Mack to a trade with the LA Chargers, Aikem Hicks to Tampa Bay in FA, and released Eddie Goldman. Danny Trevathan was also released. Roquan Smith is looking for his looming pay day. Which is well deserved if you ask me. He has been their one bright spot over the past year and half.

Coaching Staff Changes- The Bears added in Indianapolis Colts defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus as the new head coach and he selected the Green Bay Packer’ ‘quarterbacks coach Luke Getsy as their new offensive coordinator. Will be interesting to see if these guys can get the most out of their players this season. They also replaced long time GM Ryan Pace with Ryan Poles. Poles is cleaning house in Chicago and Bears a posed to have the most salary cap space in NFL history heading into the 2023 season. Approximately 128 million. Unless something changes contract wise for Roquon or other players.
