In My Defense

Hopefully you checked out my article from last week, In My Defense, where I highlighted a few DST pairings that could give you an advantage Weeks 13-16. If you missed it or weren’t able to snag any ones I highlighted, here are a few options for Week 14 that look to be promising.

New York Giants vs. Arizona Cardinals – I highlighted the Arizona DST last week in my DST combo article, but I want to focus on the other side of the field in this section. The New York Giants are quietly becoming one of the better defenses in the NFL, ranking near the top of the league in yards allowed and points allowed over the last three weeks. I mentioned earlier how the Arizona Cardinals were heading towards being an elite offense but have fallen flat the last few games. The Giants are 9th in the NFL averaging 2.7 sacks per game, and 3rd in the NFL with 1.7 takeaways per game. Combine the Giants propensity for making splash plays on defense with the Arizona offense looking like a shell of itself, and I like the DST for the Gmen to deliver this week. This game carries a 45 point Over/Under which is in the middle, but the Giants have hit the under in their last three games and I expect that to happen again this week.

Washington Football Team vs. San Fran – Another team that looks to have a promising future specifically on defense is the Washington Football Team. They put out a front seven littered with high draft picks and coached by the defensive mind of Ron Rivera.  This defense is a tough unit to score on, allowing the 8th least points per game and the 4th least yards per game. They also help light up the fantasy scoreboard, averaging 3 sacks and 1.2 takeaways per game. An anemic offense led by Nick Mullens, San Fran has been very generous giving up points to DSTs; they’ve turned the ball over a league worst 3 times per game over the last 3 games. The 43 point Over/Under is the lowest on this week’s slate and the Washington defense has held opponents to 13 points per game the last three weeks.

San Francisco 49ers vs. Washington – While we just mentioned the Washington DST as a stream this week, I also like the team on the other sideline.  Washington has given up the 10th most fantasy points to DSTs this season and have allowed nice games every single week outside of their two matchups against a hapless Cowboys team. Defensive coordinator Robert Salah has done an outstanding job with this unit, producing a top defense through a litany of injuries and a crappy offense not giving them much support. San Fran ranks 6th and 12th in yards allowed and points allowed per game, respectively.  Washington ranks near the bottom of the league in sacks given up and giveaways. Couple that with the lowest Over/Under on the week, and I think you can confidently play both DSTs in this game.
