In My Defense (Week #16 D/ST Stream Plays)
In My Defense
Week 16 is in the books and hopefully you’re looking for some streaming advice for your upcoming championship game this weekend. You need to find every advantage possible over your opponent, and the DST slot is a great way to do so this week with a handful of solid options. None of last week’s streaming options smashed like the Washington DST but provided solid returns with all three finishing in the top 11 heading into Monday night. Miami is the 7th ranked DST on the week, holding Cam Newton and Co. out of the endzone, giving up four field goals and grabbing 3 sacks and a fumble recovery. Cleveland currently ranks 9th on the week with a strong performance against the Giants, only allowing 6 points, but failed to provide many fantasy worthy plays with only one sack and no turnovers throughout the game. After speculation throughout the week, Matt Stafford suited up against the Titans and while they surely would have done better against back up Chase Daniel, the Titans DST gave a solid performance allowing 23 points and forcing 3 turnovers to rank as the #11 DST on the week.
Watch the Wire
Before we get into the lesser owned streaming options, monitor your waiver wire and double check this week to see if any of these DSTs get dropped or somehow slip through the cracks.
Miami Dolphins – If you grabbed the Miami DST last week then you can confidently roll them out in the line-up again in championship weekend. They head out West to take on the Las Vegas Raiders, losers of two straight and four of their last five. The Dolphins are favored by 2.5 and the game has a somewhat low Over/Under of 47.5. Las Vegas has given away the ball twice per game their last three games and Miami has been one of the best teams at creating turnovers. Miami sets up to be another strong start this week.
Chicago Bears – The Bears have been a great option all year outside of a slip up a few weeks ago against Green Bay. This week they travel to Jacksonville to take on a Jaguars team in the driver seat for Trevor Lawrence after the Jets win against the Rams last week. The Jags are already a lousy offense and I can’t imagine there’s much added motivation heading towards the end of the season. The Bears are 7.5-point road favorites with a 46 point Over/Under, one of the lowest on the week. Vegas gives Jacksonville an implied point total of only 19 points, and they have been one of the worst teams this season allowing sacks and giveaways. 64% owned on Yahoo the Bears are probably owned, but if they’re somehow out there, I like them a lot this week.
Buffalo Bills – Buffalo is currently 80% owned on Yahoo due to their favorable matchup this past week against the Denver Broncos. With New England coming up, check to see if Buffalo gets dropped for a DST with a better matchup on paper. New England presents a very strong matchup giving up over 3 sacks and a giveaway over their last three games. The Bills are huge 7-point road favorites with a 45 point Over/Under, giving New England a lowly implied total of only 19 points. New England games have hit the under in six straight and their offense ranks near the bottom in yards and scoring.
Week 16 DST Streamers
Arizona Cardinals – I highlighted the Cardinals a few weeks ago in the DST Combination article because of the favorable matchups they had to end the season. They feasted on the Giants and Eagles the last two weeks and take on a depleted San Francisco team at home, where they are 3.5-point favorites in a game with a 49.5 point Over/Under. This 49ers offense hasn’t been close to the product we saw last year, giving up over 2 sacks and 3 giveaways per game over their last three games. Arizona has been the best in the league getting after the QB recently, averaging 5 sacks per game the last three weeks. Arizona should be able to sack Mullens, Beathard, whoever is at QB and force a few turnovers. Only 34% owned in Yahoo leagues, Arizona is a top stream this week.
Washington Football Team – The Football Team came through huge two weeks ago but didn’t perform highly against the Seahawks top notch offense. Washington held Seattle to only 20 points but failed to sack Russell Wilson or force any turnovers. This week they should have more luck as Washington is favored by 2.5 against the Panthers at home, in the game with the lowest Over/Under (44.5) of the week. Carolina’s offense doesn’t possess the ceiling that should scare fantasy owners, averaging only 23 points per game this year. Washington has been one of the best getting after the quarterback, averaging close to 3 sacks per game this season. Teddy Bridgewater is no Russell Wilson, and Washington should get home a few times in this one.
Tamp Bay Buccaneers – Tampa Bay has been one of the top DSTs this season but probably got dropped in a lot of places given their tough matchup this week at Atlanta. This week they’re a heavy 8.5-point road favorite against Detroit with a 54 point Over/Under. The Buccaneers have allowed a modest 23 points per game this season, right where Vegas puts Detroit’s implied team total. They rank near the top of the league in takeaways and sacks, where Detroit is middle of the pack in turnovers, and near the worst in the league allowing sacks. Tampa should be able to generate enough fantasy worthy splash plays to provide a solid performance even if they allow 20+ points this week.
