In My Defense: Week #9 D/ST Streams

D/ST Streamers – Week #9

Below are three streaming options for the DST slot in Week #9 but before we go ahead, there’s a few DSTs that are highly owned in fantasy leagues, but you should double check your waiver wire to see if they’re somehow available.

Indianapolis Colts – Last week’s recommendation to stream the Bengals’ DST didn’t smash as I expected as the Jets surprised everybody and handed the Bengals a huge upset in Week 8.  Jets’ QB Mike White looked like a seasoned vet as he torched the Bengals for over 400 yards passing.  Even allowing over 30 points to the Jets, the Bengals still finished as the #12 DST on the week because even when the Jets score, they’re always a good bet for sacks and turnovers.  The Jets are giving the ball away 2.1 times per game and giving up 3.1 sacks per contest, which ranks 29th and 30th in the NFL respectively.  Coming into Indianapolis on a short week as a 10.5-point road underdog, I’ll be shocked if lightning can strike twice for Mike White and the Jets.  The Jets have the 3rd lowest implied team total this week at 17.75 points and have allowed by far the most points to the DST position.  Not only is the matchup spectacular, but the Colts’ defense has also been on fire lately, averaging 3 takeaways and 2.3 sacks per game over the last three weeks.  Worst case scenario we get a repeat of last week, and you get the 12th ranked DST, but best-case scenario the Colts have a good chance to finish inside the Top 3 this week, if not #1 overall.

Las Vegas Raiders – If you aren’t able to get one of the more popular streaming options this week, I think the Las Vegas Raiders provide a solid fallback option as 3-point road favorites against the Giants.  The Giants are giving up the 8th most points to DSTs over the last 4 weeks and have struggled scoring points, averaging only slightly above 18 points per game over that time.  The Giants have been one of the most injury riddled teams this season, constantly missing playmakers Saquon Barkley, Kenny Golladay, Kadarius Toney, and Sterling Shephard.  While Toney is expected to be fine for this week, Barkley, Golladay and Shephard look doubtful in this contest which should favor the Raiders.  The Raiders defense hasn’t been horrible either over the last three weeks, getting to the QB 3 times per game and forcing 2 turnovers per contest, 8th, and 9th in the NFL respectively.

New Orleans Saints – While they’ve been one of the top DSTs of 2021, there’s a good chance the Saints DST is sitting on the waiver wire given their tough matchup against the Bucs in Week 8.  If you’re lucky enough to pick them up, the Saints take on the Atlanta Falcons as 6-point favorites in a game with a low Over/Under of 42 points, which gives the Falcons an implied team total of only 18 points, 4th lowest on the week.  Atlanta is giving up the 6th most fantasy points to the DST position as a result of being near the bottom of the league in giveaways and sacks allowed per game.  Over the last 3 weeks the Saints have been one of the top defenses in the NFL, ranking near the top of the league in sacks and takeaways per game, with 3.3 and 1.7 respectively.  This seems like a smash spot where the Saints have a good chance of finishing as the #1 overall DST this week if you’re able to get them.
