NFC West Draft Needs
The NFC West is widely considered the toughest division in football but they’re really lacking in the draft capital department with only two teams picking in the 1st round and only 23 draft picks for the entire division. Let’s take a look at what they might spend their precious picks on.
CB, OL, DL.
Thanks to Russell Wilson the whole world knows the Seahawks need help on the offensive line especially since both veteran tackles Duane Brown and Brandon Shell will be in their final years of their contracts. Seattle only has three picks in this draft, a 2nd, 4th, and 7th rounder so they’ll have to do some savvy trading if they want to add more than 2 decent players. Wherever they end up picking, it’s a pretty safe bet they’ll either go offensive line or Cornerback since they lost Shaquill Griffin to Jacksonville in Free Agency. The defensive line is in need of some depth as well.
Los Angeles Rams
C, OT, S, LB.
The Rams have a gaping hole in the middle of their offensive line after starting Center Austin Blythe left for Kansas City. The Rams aren’t on the clock until pick 57 so finding a starting caliber Center could be difficult. They could trade up if Landon Dickerson falls into the second round but they’re really not in the position to trade up with only six picks this season. Andrew Whitworth will turn 40 during this season and one has to imagine that he’ll finally call it a career. Los Angeles is without a replacement for the former All Pro so they could look to add a successor at left tackle. The Secondary will probably be next in line after losing John Johnson III to the Browns. The linebacking squad hasn’t lost anyone from last season but could really use to be upgraded or at least add some depth.
San Francisco 49ers
QB, CB, DL, RB.
We all know Kyle Shanahan and co. are taking a QB at #3 but what they do after that is the question. They have a fairly solid roster but could really use some depth at the Cornerback position with Richard Sherman yet to re-sign. The defensive line struggled after trading away Deforest Buckner and with Nick Bosa out due to injury. They could definitely use another body up front especially after losing Solomon Thomas in FA. Adding a Running Back to the mix behind the often injured Raheem Mostert wouldn’t be a bad idea either. San Francisco has a total of nine draft picks with one in each round and three in the fifth round.
CB, TE, WR.
The Cardinals only hold five draft picks with two of those being seventh rounders so like the Seahawks and Rams they’ll need to trade back if they want to fill more than two or three needs with coveted prospects. Cornerback is the main need here with Patrick Peterson in Minnesota. Steve Keim and Kingsbury will definitely try to address this hole early and will probably only be able to add depth players after that. Upgrading the Tight End position would be nice after losing Dan Arnold and the Wide Receiver position could use some youth to learn behind the aging Fitzgerald and AJ Green. Chandler Jones is on the final year of his contract so if they don’t think they’ll be able to afford him with Hopkins’ cap hit going up $13 million for a total of just over $25 mil, they could look to find his successor now rather than later.
