Prime Time Preview: Chargers Vs Colts

Prime Time Preview: Chargers Vs Colts

Hello and welcome back to my Monday Night Preview! This week we travel to Lucas Oil Stadium where the Los Angeles Chargers (8-6) visit the Indianapolis Colts (4-9-1) for an AFC showdown. The last time these two teams faced off was in Sept 2019 in Los Angeles, the first time since the Chargers had moved to their new home. The all time matchup record for these two franchises sits at 19-11 with LA being in the lead. The Chargers are currently in the 6th seed of the AFC and are looking to secure their place in the playoffs. A win over the #14 Colts, along with a few other variables this week could see them clinching a spot. The Colts are sitting in the bottom 5  and are on a depressing 4 game losing streak. Most recently they earned the honor of blowing the biggest halftime lead in NFL history against the Minnesota vikings after being up 33-0. The Vikings came back to win 39-36 in overtime. L.A. enters week 16 having won their last two match ups.

As we draw closer to game time we are starting to see what the rosters will look like. The big news this week came in the form of another face in the QB position for the Colts. The announcement from Indianapolis was that Nick Foles will be stepping in as the 3rd quarterback to start this season. Matt Ryan has yet again been benched after going 1-4 since Jeff Saturday took over as interim HC and reinstated him as the starter. While we all watch and wonder what Nick will do, the one guy we won't see him handing the ball to is Jonathan Taylor. He has sadly been placed on IR with an ankle injury after leaving early in the week 15 contest. We can look forward to Zach Moss and Deon Jackson to fill in for his absence. The Chargers will have a healthy QB in Justin Herbert who just became the only player in NFL history to have 4,000 passing yards in each of his first 3 seasons. Austin Ekeler is also expected to be healthy and compete even after having suffered a shoulder injury last week. Test results on Monday came back negative for anything serious and he should be good to go. Safety Derwin James has been reported to be back practicing in a limited capacity, however pass rusher Joey Bosa has not been spotted. He is not expected back on any specific time table as of yet.

This matchup between the Chargers and Colts seems to be pretty well decided by the folks who like to figure out the odds. Throughout the week things have leaned more and more in favor of LA as news broke about roster changes and injuries. A few do still think the game could be close and decided with as little as one score. Over all the Colts are being touted as at home underdogs. The over/under looks to be around 46.5 with the Chargers being the -4 favorite.

If both teams continue on the way they have then this could very well be the outcome. I have to agree with the books. Los Angeles over the last few weeks had their best receivers return. The Colts barely know who their QB is, and they just lost their RB1. I see Los Angeles winning in week 16. My score prediction is LAC-21 Colts-13
