Round Table
Welcome back to the TSF Round Table where the guys at Truth Serum Football are joined by our guest Justin Herrera! The offseason is continuing to drag on and as always we're here to answer some questions. Have a question you want us to answer at next week’s Round Table discussion? Drop it in a comment below.
- Who do you think is the most overvalued right now in PPR redraft formats?
Travis: Let the haters role in. Jonathan Taylor. I’ve seen him go as high as 2 in mocks we’ve done and mostly go 4th overall. While I think he is a stud I also think the public has gotten overhyped on him a tad. His end of season schedule last year was similar to that on David Montgomery. Nyhiem Hines will also look to stay involved in the passing game. I’m just not sold on him providing a RB 3-4 return.
Pynakker: Terry McLaurin, like I get that he’s good but people acting like fitzmagic gonna make him a top 5 wr.
Manil: Julio Jones. Sure he used to be a stud, but now he’s older coming off a bad hamstring injury and he’s on a run first team with AJ Brown also vying for targets.
Justin: Cam Akers, the hype train is out of control. Now everyone thinks he's going to be a big part of the passing game, because of Stafford. Call me crazy but Akers has never in his pro or college career gotten more than 30 receptions. Another thing to remember is Stafford is coming from a team with limited receiving options, the Rams have plenty of receivers to throw to, whether its downfield or the slot. I'm passing on Akers this year in PPR, I'd rather have Swift or Gibson.
- How much do you value old proven veterans in dynasty formats?
Travis: I really don’t care for the older running backs or TEs but I’ll gladly take the Adam Thielen’s, Julio Jones, Aaron Rodgers, and Russell Wilson’s of the world. I tend to attack the young RBs and not necessarily attack the old WRs but I will if it becomes an overwhelming value to me.
Pynakker: You have to find a happy medium between skill and age, if Adams is there in the 3rd-4th rd smash that draft button but you’re not taking Julio super early at his age.
Manil: I think old veterans can still have some worth, especially if you’re a win-now team. Many of the top elite QBs are all in their late 30s/40s.
Justin: I value old vets highly at my 2nd Qb spot, any other position I’d pass for younger guys. If it’s a deep league then I’ll snag some of the grizzled vets, but most of the time I’m drafting youth.
- What do you make of the crowded Houston backfield for fantasy?
Travis: Truly I think it’s only a two man race between David Johnson and Phillip Lindsay. I look for Lindsay to ultimately be the lead dog in this backfield. Ingram and Burkhead don’t need to be drafted.
Pynakker: It’s all coin flips until the season starts and you see who is actually leading the backfield, too many legit starters years ago lol
Manil: It’s going to be a mess. They have 4 very capable backs which is good for real life, but killer for fantasy.
Justin: As of now, I want nothing to do with the Texans backfield. If Watson shows up, I might snag Lindsay or DJ as a late-late round flier but otherwise no thank you.
- Over or under 9.5 wins for the Rams?
Travis:
This team with an upgrade at the quarterback position while already having a supporting defense should make noise and I think it would be a huge disappointment if the Rams didn’t make the NFC Championship in 2021. They pushed all in on Stafford and they also have a couple of stud running backs in Henderson and Akers. Yes, don’t sleep on Henderson as he should have some valuable touches this season and should be considered a high-end handcuff late in drafts.
Pynakker: I’d say over, they really have the making for the super bowl, only reason they might not is the skill of that division.
Manil: Over. Matthew Stafford is a way better QB than Jared Goff. I expect them to be at the top of the division
Justin: 4. It pains me to say it as a 49er fan, but I got the Rams for 10 or 11 wins this year. Stafford seemingly completes their offense, and they are going to be tough to beat next year.
- Start, bench, cut for redraft PPR: Robby Anderson, Brandin Cooks, TY Hilton.
Travis: Start: Cooks
Bench: Anderson
Cut: Hilton
I said what I said. If you don’t like it fight me!
Pynakker: Start Robby Anderson, bench TY Hilton and cut Cooks.
Manil: Brandin Cooks if Deshaun Watson doesn’t end up getting traded or hold out. Otherwise Robby Anderson, cut Hilton.
Justin: 5. Start Robby, bench Cooks, cut Hilton.
That’s it for this week guys and Happy Independence Day! Thanks for reading and as always, stay true.
