Round Table
Welcome back to the TSF Round Table where the guys at Truth Serum Football are here to talk some ball! Free agency is in full swing and as always we're here to answer some questions. Have a question you want us to answer at next week’s Round Table discussion? Drop it in a comment below.
- What were some of the best free agent signings so far?
Zach: My Pats getting James White for cheap was nice, the Lions landing Josh Reynolds for 2 years and just $6 mil seems like a ridiculous steal for the potential he has and how insane the WR market has gotten.
Pynakker: I gotta say my raiders signing chandler Jones is huge, I haven’t been super impressed with free agency so far it’s mostly the trades that have been crazy.
Anthony: A few signings that I really like:
Marcus Williams to Baltimore. The Ravens pass defense was atrocious last season and Williams is one of, if not the best, cover safety in the NFL. This should provide an immediate improvement to one of the leagues worst pass defenses
JC Jackson to Chargers. The Chargers seem to being all in on Herberts rookie contract trading for Mack and now adding a great young corner in Jackson. LA should have one of the best defenses in the NFL next season.
Mitch Trubisky to Pittsburgh. I know Trubisky gets a lot of heat but he had a good amount of success under Matt Nagy who proved to be a terrible hire and this gives the Steelers flexibility going into next season. They can draft a QB and have them sit or address other needs altogether and aren’t forced into finding an answer there. Plus you could argue Trubisky is going to be an upgrade over Big Ben from last season.
- What were some of the worst contracts dished out? And let’s leave the poor Jaguars alone!
Deshaun Watson’s is terribly risky no matter how you massage it!
Pynakker: Rodgers contract is the worst, literally fucked his whole team with that kind of money
Anthony: Pretty much all the signings Jacksonville made seem pretty bad in terms of value. I like Christian Kirk and Brandon Scherff but it seemed like they wayyyy overpaid for all of their additions. Outside of Jacksonville, I think the Chargers paid a hefty price for Mike Williams. His new contract makes him the 6th highest paid WR per year and I understand wanting to keep your weapons around Herbert, but Williams is far from the 6th best WR in the league
- What are your thoughts on your team’s free agency so far?
Zach: As a Pats fan, there’s not too much to think about.
Pynakker: I like what my Raiders have done besides the Brandon Boldin signing and letting Heyward walk but hoping they ain’t done.
Anthony: As a Jets fan I absolutely love what they’ve done so far. They’ve given out solid deals without overpaying to young players at positions of need. Tomlinson, Uzomah/Conklin, Reed and Whitehead will all step in and be day 1 starters. It plugs a lot of holes and helps give us a ton of flexibility going into the draft
- What is your opinion on players playing recruiter?
Zach: I don’t mind it but it never seems to work haha.
Pynakker: I like it, it shows respect to players throughout the league
Anthony: I think it’s great when players try to get people to come. To me it says a lot about what the recruiting player thinks about his organization. A player trying to recruit other guys to his team tells me he truly believes in the team and what they’re building
That’s it for this week guys. Thanks for reading and as always, stay true.
