Each Position’s Top Breakout Candidate

Each Position’s Top Breakout Candidate

Top Breakout Candidates at each position

These are a look at the Top Breakout Candidates of the upcoming 2021 season. This is a way too early edition to this as a lot could change between now and the start of draft season. The Draft, Free Agency could further solidify some of these options or it could drive their opportunities downward. These are a few players I would also be looking to buy in Dynasty before their prices skyrocket.

Jalen Hurts – he must be at the top of this quarterback list just for the sure volume he will have on his rushing ability. Although I am not sure he possesses the high-level ceiling of a Lamar Jackson 2019 or a Kyler Murray of 2020 his floor should still put him as a locked in top 12 option in 2021.

Joe Burrow- the Heisman trophy winner and number one pick from last year should take another step in the right direction this coming year. I am excited to see what the Bengals do in this upcoming draft. I expect them to get yet another weapon for Burrow on the outside. A healthy Joe Mixon should also do nothing but help. Burrow was leading the league in pass attempts before he went down with his unfortunate ACL injury. This Will be the year Zac Taylor unlocks this Bengals offense and Burrow will be one of my late round quarterback targets in 2021 for sure.

Daniel Jones- this is all dependent on what they do with all that money they have with their cap this offseason. Saqoun Barkley coming back healthy will only help. This team is in true need of a number one on the outside. Juju Smith-Shuster comes to mind a good option and so does a player like Chris Godwin if they could pry him away from Tampa.

Running Back

Cam Akers- he is maybe at the top of my list as the top break out candidate. Sean McVay has done wonders year in and year out with his offenses. He will yet again change his offense and they will build around Akers and the run game in 2021. He showed out down the stretch and with Malcom Brown hitting the free agent market shall do nothing but create opportunity for this stud of a back.

D’Andre Swift- Most peoples number one dynasty player predraft last year showed flashes here and there last year. He had 8 touchdowns last year with limited opportunity and did just enough in the passing game to give you a nice floor weekly. Although it does concern me a bit about Jared Goff in the huddle, I look for this team to lean on Swift and the way they used Swift in games was reminiscent of a young Le’Veon Bell.

JK Dobbins- do I really need to say much here? Not only did this man flash last year, but he had a couple 100 yard plus games last year. With Mark Ingram out and Gus Bus Edwards possibly gone via Free agency this could be the Dobbins show moving forward. If Lamar Jackson is behind center it does nothing but give this man, the upside to exceed.

AJ Dillon- this is all dependent on the free agency of Aaron Jones, but if the team moves on from Jones this should make Dillon a surefire top 15 running back. When I watched that Week 16 game between the Packers and Titans the first thing as said was there goes Jones. That one game did everything to sell me on the idea of Dillon being a featured back.

Wide Receiver

Cee Dee Lamb- is at the very top of this list as my number one breakout wide receiver of this coming year. Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup are going to be taking a backseat to Lamb as he is above and beyond the number one WR on this squad.

Chase Claypool- although he did somewhat flash and finished as a top 24 option at the position, I do feel like he was being held back by Juju being involved in this offense. This is all kind of dependent of Big Ben staying in Pittsburgh in 2021 and if he does, I think Claypool is Ben’s number one red zone option and the number of times he will target Claypool in Juju’s departure could be otherworldly in the number of attempts thrown his way.

Michael Pittman- although we did not get to see a ton of Pittman being targeted in this offense a lot of that had to do with noodle arm Rivers throwing him the ball. Pittman is a big bodied receiver who should be frequently targeted by Wentz. Hilton could be on his way out of Indy as I fully expect to happen as well and that will only bode well for Pittman’s opportunities.

Darnell Mooney- I do not want to get too far ahead of myself here and we currently do not know the quarterback situation in Chicago, but Mooney did have moments of brilliance last year. He was targeted on a lot of deep throws in 2020, but unfortunately hitting on those downfield routes is something that Trubisky does not do well. I like to compare Mooney closely to Stefon Diggs. He could also be given the opportunity to be the top receiver if Chicago is unable to resign Allen Robinson or franchise tag him. I love Mooney as a late steal in 2021.

Tight End

Cole Kmet- sticking with the Chicago Bears, Cole Kmet was getting heavily targeted down the stretch. He was taken early in the second-round last year and with what was being said about Mooney also applies to Kmet as well. Jimmy Graham could also be gone via retirement which would open a ton of opportunity of the youngster.

Irv Smith Jr- there has been a lot of chatter amongst the fantasy community about Smith’s potential breakout. This is mostly dependent on what the team decides to do with Kyle Rudolph and if they can either trade or cut him completely.

Gerald Everett- The scariest thing about Everett is his pending Free Agency, but I am here to ensure you nothing should scare you about this man. He is a tall, athletic tight end and is coming into the ripe age of a breakout tight end. Imagine if Arizona were able to sign him; I truly believe that get could be the perfect fit for Everett.
